So, I've been reading something I'm actually wondering...how do I know what formula to use for the type of techniques I design for the Tool Nin?

Here is how you'd find that information out...

Explosive | Staff | Sword | Scythe | Iron Fan | Sword Hidden Ie. [Wielding Kunai] = Kenjutsu Formula

Bow | Sword Hidden ie. [Throwing Shuriken] = Projectiles.
