Now, Uzume might not seem like it if you just talked to her but she was as much of a genius at most of what she tried as any Uchiha of previous generations and right now she was trying different plants. Apparently they managed to crate a hybrid of two different poison plants and nobody had yet decided to test weather or not the mixture was poison, Hybrids were weird like that sometimes. So it was Uzume's task to make sure that any method that it could be made into a poison was tested, medical staff on stand by just in case but she was rather sure that it was actually poison. First as with most plants, the fruit should be tested, not that she was going to eat it no, the small berries that she picked from the plant were being feed to a lab rat. It seemed to take to that just fine, noting abnormal about it just yet.
She noted down the results of that particular experiment and began to take leaf clippings so she could mash them into paste, nothing so simple as it were, couldn't expect the first thing tried to work. Soon she had a thoroughly crushed plant paste, she could use this to make a small cut and note side effects. same as the first she got another experiment mouse and made the smallest cut with the poison, and other than freaking out that it had been sort of stabbed it seemed okay.
