“I need you to sit down and meditate in front of me.” The creature boomed. Reo, who was expecting something far more urgent to occur than meditation, was thrown off by the request.

“Meditate?” Reo asked.

“Yes. You must be one with the world. Eliminate all distractions and focus on the nature of the world itself. Plants, rocks, water…everything possesses its own energy. Focus on that.” Kyut said as it clearly stifled a yawn. As Reo watched, he realized that he didn’t know where Kyut’s hands were. Were they too big to fit outside of the cavern exit? Why would he be in the cavern if he was too big for it?

Nevertheless, Reo persisted. He sat down and crossed his legs in front of Kyut. He closed his eyes and began to meditate. Meditation was a strange practice to Reo. It involved blocking everything out – but the mind was a constant intrusion. So, Reo tried to focus on what Kyut said. The energy of the world. The energy in rocks was basically all that was around him, so he tried to feel it.

Unfortunately, he could feel just about nothing. Was there some secret to this that he wasn’t getting?

“You are too impatient, young one.” Kyut boomed as Reo tried to meditate. The voice of the armadillo didn’t make his task any easier.

“Relax. Don’t search it out. Let the energy come to you.” Kyut continued. Reo’s concentration had been broken when he spoke, so he began to try to focus on the nature around them once again. It was surprisingly difficult not to try to mentally scan for the energy. Eventually, he managed to stop his search and to just sit and feel at one with the world.

It was an interesting experience and – as Reo sat there – he realized that he could feel something. It was faint, almost a trickle of energy flowing through the stones like the veins of ore, but it was there.
