Her teacher waved at Kori. He – at least – always appreciated that he had a student that was willing to work hard and master everything put before her. HE was one of the only people that never seemed to see her Junpaku heritage. She was grateful for that.

She loved being a Junpaku, at times. She loved the white hair. She loved her ice abilities. What she didn’t love was the reactions that others had towards her. The way that they always looked down on her, as if she were somehow wrong by existing. She just wanted to be accepted and not feared.

Kori ran over to her teacher. He was a tall man, quite a bit taller than the young twelve year old girl.

“Kori! You’re the first one here.” Miruka Sensei said in his kindly way. He had a scar running across his forehead, though he always covered it up with his forehead protector. Kori had seen it once when he was adjusting it. “As always, you’re a hard worker. When are you going to submit the paperwork to take the Genin Exam?”

“Genin Exam?! Me! I’m nowhere near ready!” Kori yelled out in surprise. There was no way she could take the Genin Exams!

“You’re getting there.” Miruka Sensei said with a smile as he patted Kori on the head. She hated when he did that, but blushed anyway. Something about it put her in a good mood. She still hated it, though. “Why don’t you sit down and wait for the others.”

Miruka Sensei gestured towards a stump in the clearing. There were quite a few stumps…in fact, there was one for each student in her class. Did Miruka sensei come out here early and chop trees down just for this lesson? What could iot be that he would put that much effort into it?

Kori followed his gesture and found a nice stump to sit on. Then, she waited. It wasn’t long before other students began to trail in. She didn’t like the majority of them - because they didn’t like her. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be liked. She really did. They just treated her poorly and Kori wouldn’t sit back and take that.

Someone shouldn’t be treated poorly just because they are a Junpaku. Once the whole class had arrived, Miruka waved at everyone in a friendly manner. “Alright alright. I think we all know why we are here. It’s finally time for Chakra Control Training”

“Chakra control training?” Kiri asked, lips turning downwards into a frown. What was e talking about? She had learned to master her elements. Besides, why would they need to come all the way out here to train their chakra?

“Yes, Kori. I think this will work best if I demonstrate. If you have paid attention, you are all sitting on a stump which has anther - living - tree behind it. That is your tree for this exercise.”

“Our tree?”

“Let me demonstrate” the sensei’s feet began to glow slightly as he walked forward. Then, he walked directly up the tree. It was as if gravity was nonexistent.

Kori didn’t master the training during their one day of it, but she did improve. It was impressive how quickly one could improve doing this training – and how it generalized to other applications. She could already see improvements in the way she moved when using chakra. It was only a matter of time before she could fully utilize chakra and make her village proud. As she left, Kori’s sensei told her something both exciting and scary. She was going to be sent to a far away country for training. She wasn’t sure how she felt, but it could be a good experience.


Right?

It wasn’t like Dragons were destroying the world or anything.
