Sunlight shone as Shan made his way into the open air. The world looked strange upside down. The ground was below him and the sun below. Still, it was a beautiful sight compared to the darkness of the cave behind him.

Sadly, Shan didn’t have much time to waste since the leader of the gang was still coming for him -plus whoever had managed to recover from the minor damage he had done to them (and not so minor to one traitor).

Shan jumped off the cave entrance - releasing his chakra and doing a flip as he did so. During the flip, Shan was able to see three people. The leader of the gang ran towards him. One of the ones he had ran by was behind him carrying a slumped over body with red hair. Scarlett.

Shan watched them for a moment. The leader, too, turned to stare at the man carrying Scarlett out.

“Boss! She’s hurt bad. I think she’s going to lose an eye if we don’t hurry and get her to a hospital” the man yelled out - frantic and desperate to be heard.

Surprisingly, the gang leader stopped and looked at the limb body of the red haired girl. Then, he walked back to her.

“If you go to her, you will lose me. You will lose my eyes. Forever. You know that, right?” Shan asked, face bunched up in confusion. Why would he do that? His prize was right here.

The gang leader ignored Shan and looked at the bloody face of the woman being held. Of the girl being held. It was so easy to forget that Scarlett was only fourteen. She looked older, but she was just a kid. A kid with a wooden shuriken embedded into her eye.

The gang leader turned around and looked at Shan with a critical eye. “Go. This isn’t over yet, but there’s no point in fighting you if it causes this beauty to lose her eyes. We planned on storing your eyes until we could find someone to help replace mine...but, for now we need to save her eyesight.”

Shan turned to go, but couldn’t believe this was actually happening. All of that and he was just going to give up? Why did Shan ever think this group was strong?

They were weak. Pathetically weak. They would never obtain true power if they continued like that. Though, this taught Shan something. If you want Power, you must be willing to sacrifice whomever you have to in order to get it.

No price is too high.

Shan began to walk away. The sun was setting on the journey on that cave, and this part of Shan’s life. Gone were the days of the innocent Academy Student. He would become a genin, though he would leave the village shortly after. Why stay in a village that would only make him weak?
