Shrine [Q,S]

Reo looked around himself as the scenery changed once again. He was finally arriving back in Iwa. He had begun to think that his mother had intended to hold him in Suna until he relented and stayed there permanently. Luckily, Daichi – the Jounin that Reo worked with on the latest mission – had backed Reo up in continuing his trip. Reo was still unsure why he had done that. It wasn’t as if he owed Reo anything and – technically speaking – this trip wasn’t mandatory. In fact, Reo hadn’t divulged the purpose of his trips to the other villages to anyone just yet.

Reo let out a breath as he glanced around. The rocks of Iwa were a welcome sight after staying in Suna for…how long had it been? A week? More? He had lost count. Each day had felt like an eternity since had felt like his entire goal was stalled. It was a week of uncovering nothing new on Apollo. A week of learning nothing about this sapphire lake that the scroll should be used at.  Still, now that he was back in Iwa, it was time to be on the move once more. His first task? Locate the Shrine of Nanabi and go to it.

Both Suna and Kiri had possessed a Shrine that seemed to bestow knowledge of the elemental chakra most common in the land upon those who travel there. Reo was determined to make it his first stop in Iwa this time around. He had heard about the shrine from the Jounin that taught him Doton in the first place. This shrine was called the Shrine of Nanbi. Reo had also been told where the shrine was located, but he had to go home to Suna first to uphold a promise with his mother. Now, it was time to begin the trek.

Reo pulled out his map and glanced at it. There was a circle on the stone forest, but that wasn’t the one he was looking for. That circle was detailing where he had found the Kanayabi – the Earth Deity Trident that Reo now carried on his back. The other mark on the map was that of a square. It appeared to be in the middle of nowhere, but it was directly to Reo’s left So, Reo turned to walk that direction. It was east, though Reo wasn’t exactly great with directions to know that offhand.
 
The trail that he had been walking on quickly gave way to an even rockier landscape as Reo began to travel off-road.

The sun rose high in the sky as Reo crested a large sloping part of the land. He hadn’t expected the land to slope this much in Iwa, and barely recognized when it was doing so. It was only when he reached the top and turned around that he noticed how high he had climbed. This was a far larger hill than Reo would have encountered in Suna. How had Reo ever thought this area flatter than Suna?
 
Reo could only surmise that it must be because of the slow sloping nature of the land. He noticed the slight sloping but couldn’t see how high it truly went until he was on top.

It was only then that Reo realized that he was at one of the few spots that he knew were more elevated than those on the desert plain of suna. He was at the base of one of the mountains in the region. Glancing upwards, Reo could see that he definitely did not want to climb that mountain.
 
Reo glanced at his map and estimated where he was based on how far he had walked from the road.then, he glanced back at the mountain. He was going to have to climb it.
 
“Well, this will be terrible.” Reo murmured as he walked to the base of the mountain and dusted his hands off.

Reo placed one hand on the rock and began to climb. It was tough work, but he found he was enjoying it. Reo had ever actually travelled up a mountain such as this before, and it felt refreshing to let his feet dangle above the open air as he made his way ever skyward, one hand at a time. Sweat began to beat upon Reo’s brow as he moved upwards – wondering when he would reach a platform.
 
Part of him wondered where the shrine would be, but he felt like he had a pretty good idea. The shrine would be at the top of the mountain – of course. This was Iwa, the land of rock and he felt that a shrine on top of a mountain made perfect sense for that.

Reo continued to climb upwards – thinking about what it all meant. This mountain seemed to symbolize Doton and Iwa perfectly. Powerful. Unmoving. Steady. All things Doton and Iwa stood for. Still, there was one thing that it stood for more than anything.
 
Defense.
 
As Reo climbed, he noticed creatures nesting on the mountain – seemingly perfectly safe from all conditions. The creatures probably stayed in the mountain so that they were safe from predators. They would also be safe from many weather conditions. Chances are, one side of this mountain would receive great amount of weather beating against it. The other side would likely be protected from that weather.
